Saint Kieran's Primary School's Special Guest

During a period when John and Enda were very busy they took time out to travel all the way to Belfast to attend a Performance of the Musical 'The Wizard of Oz' as presented by the pupils of St. Kieran's Primary School. When I say travel I should point out that as they set off there had been a very heavy fall of snow and all flights were delayed- for up to 6 hours! In spite of this they persisted (they were also interviewed by a television crew who were following up on the story of the snowbound passengers). John, ever the professional, insisted on not sitting at the front and no fuss to be made on their arrival. Why? It might impact on the children's' performance! The atmosphere was electric, the show was superb and included John being called upon to sing a duet'Man Eater,' with one of the performers. I had the privilege of watching as the parents and pupils revelled being in the presence of an accomplished actor who remained long after the show had ended to sign autographs and have his picture taken with pupils and their parents. It should be noted that the school is located in an area of high social deprivation. How John ever managed to escape the clutches of St. Kieran's Dinner ladies still baffles me to this day. But it was one of the rare times I ever saw John filled with fear! Our condolences to Enda, Brendan, Nikki and Grandson Harry. God Bless John, a man of great heart and Joy and will long be remembered for his generosity of spirit.
